my new hobby…

February 19, 2009

I’ve always liked being crafty and doing thing with my hands.  And, it seems every Christmas my family members gets my latest handmade creation as a gift.  I suppose it is a mixture of wanting to save money and wanting to give things that are meaningful.   Do they always like my gifts?  Uh…not sure about that.  :)

My newest hobby is knitting.  I decided to teach myself to knit this summer.  I’m very deturmined to accomplish things once I’ve set my mind to it.  So,  after many, many hours of trial and error and frustration – I feel I have finally gotten “pretty good.”   The reason I decided to learn was because I had seen so many photographers using adorable knit props in their infant photoshoots (hats, wraps, blankets etc.).   They were too expensive to buy, so I figured I could learn to do it!

Here are some pictures from a few things I knit for family this year – a hat & neck wrap combo and felted purses. They picked the yarn and I picked the projects…

Joe & Ashley’s Wedding

February 12, 2009

Courtney and I had the privilege of photographing Joe and Ashley’s wedding recently!  It was a beautiful, yet very cold winter day.  The church was very lovely and quaint, yet a challenge for us as it is probably the smallest church we have ever shot in.   Joe and Ashley looked stunning and very much ready to finally tie the knot!  They were so easy to work with and such a beautiful couple to photograph.  We wish you two all the best!

This little flower girl was adorable – she really had a lot of charisma and spunk for one so young.   She was  fun to get pictures of!

Did I mention this was a cold day?  It was FREEZING out – probably around 20 degrees!  We were so glad Ashley and Joe were up for getting some quick shots outside.   This spot we had them stand was about the only spot available.  The ground was snow covered with a very bright glare, and the church was surrounded by a parking lot and graveyard on all sides.  We picked a good spot and shot away before poor Ashley froze!

This was sweet.  The pastor was saying something about how his message was not only for Joe and Ashley, but all the married couples in the room.  He suggested everyone take the hand of their partner.  Here are Joe’s grandparents, showing their love for eachother.   They were also the winners of the dancing contest at the reception for being married the longest!

Twins!

February 5, 2009

I had the pleasure of photographing beautiful, little twin girls recently! They were already almost 3 weeks old, so we had some difficulty getting them to sleep. But the challenge was worth it and we ended up with some great shots!

*FYI – I’ll stick this in here – infants really need to be photographed in the first 10 days in order to get them into the sleepy, curly shots. After that it gets pretty tricky. So, if you know someone thinking about having infant pictures done, have them contact me while they are still pregnant!*

Anyway, this was a fun shoot. It was funny how many similarities our two families shared – even down to both of us having a cat named Kiwi! :) Here are some of my favorites of the girls…
